Shanghai, located along the coast of the East China Sea and the southern banks of the mouth of the Yangtze River, is a city under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government. The Bund

The word"Bund"was derived from Anglo-Indian word meaning quay, it is where the European, American and Japanese trading houses, clubs, consulates and banks had their headquarters in 1920s and 1930s, the stretch of neo-classical buildings along the bund left from then have been renovated by the government and are beautiful illuminated at night. The bund is about a mile long and it has become Shanghai's fulcrum.
