Located along the side of Lake Taihu in the Yangtze River region, 62 miles east of Shanghai, Suzhou is an ancient cultural city built 2,500 years ago.

Suzhou is crisscrossed by rivers and enjoys a mild and humid climate, easily accessible by water, land and air transportation. Many private gardens were built during and after the Song Dynasty, making the city famous for its awe-inspiring classical gardens. The natural scenery of hills and streams in Suzhou is as charming as a delicate flower. Streets and alleys in Suzhou run parallel to centuries-old canals. Small bridges and flowing waters, white walls and dark gray roof tiles match one another in tranquil elegance. In addition, many historical sites are extremely attractive for visitors.

Suzhou Restaurants

The main delicacy streets in Suzhou can be divided into two kinds: the traditional delicacy streets, such as Taijiannong Delicacy Street and Bifengfang Delicacy Street in Guanqianjie District; Shiquanjie Food Street and Fenghuangjie Food Street in Panmen District, and exotic delicacy street such as Xinqu Commercial Street featuring Japanese food and Xindu Piazza characterized with western food.

Famous Restaurants

Deyuelou Restaurant

Deyue Lou is a famed Suzhou style restaurant. It keeps the traditional Suzhou cooking features of stewing, simmering and braising. Most chefs in the restaurant have been trained in the headquarters to assure each meal conforming to the perfect Suzhou cooking style. Still, the signature dishes here are Mandarin Fish, Fenzhengrou (steamed pork slices with glutinous rice flour), Xiefen Tofu (braised bean curd with crab meat) and Qingchao Xiaren (stir-fired shelled fresh shrimps). Deyue Lou usually tends to fill quickly on weekends, so reservation is necessary.
